In my opinion, this paradigm implies a hidden cartel conspiracy between plugin developers and hardware manufacturers.How much sense does it make to develop your plugins to work well on "outdated hardware"? I would go for the best possible sound quality, and compromise so that the plugins work well on current hardware. Not on outdated hardware.
