Concerning point 2, I can see that being the case. As I said though, is that Ive seen a number of install directions these past weeks stressing installing in places that have read/write permissions, with one of them noting saving user presets or changes to presets not possible otherwise.

So this is why I was asking if Ive done part of this myself by not having my plugin folder in a place with full read/write?
If a developer choose a solution or a location this solution will work (in most cases when we talk about serious developers it's true). It has been tested. Why should you bother about read/write permissions? Just install a plugin as it is intended and use it. Let's bother if something doesn't work.
