Effects • Re: What FX plugin bundle best complements logic pro stock FX?

Not sure about bundles. Thinking more about individual effects (which might help decide on a bundle)...

I mostly use 3rd party delays. I don't care for Delay Designer (they need to update that one like they have others) so anything more complex than a simple delay I turn to Valhalla or Replica XT. I do use Logic tape delay quite often.

I use 3rd party reverbs, but probably more because I bought them than any deficiency on Logic's! :D I have a couple by Liquidsonics and I use the free Supermassive (really more of a delay) a lot.

(I think a lot of us that have bought "stuff" will want to use it to get money's worth!)

I tend to sleep on Phat FX and Step FX in Logic and I shouldn't. These used to be highly regarded when owned by Camel.

I've started using Chromaglow but I'm not any expert on overdrive/saturation. Not sure how this one compares to others. I do tend to keep the overdrive level very low on it. Phat FX has a number of different distortions, Tape Delay has one, the compressors have overdrive, etc. Again, not sure how well any or all of these measure up to vendor plugins.

Logic's compressors work great for me. Lots of options with one plugin, I love how you can simply switch the type after setting it up. Same for EQ--the good ol channel EQ is what I use for any fixes, while I've been enjoying the Tube vintage EQ for coloration.

I use PA's Lindell 80 channel strip, mainly just the preamp and not much compression or EQ, because I like whatever it adds to the sound. Coloration I suppose. I have other channel strips I convinced myself to buy when I had Plugin Alliance vouchers but that's the only one that gets any use.

As far as "mastering" (for me, always in quotes because I'm a toddler with a lighter when it comes to mastering) I got Ozone 10 when I got Komplete, so I've been using it and not the built-in Logic mastering stuff, or their limiter.

Instrument-wise, I'm a bit more picky. Pretty much all I use is 3rd party, from pianos to rhodes and even to organ (the vintage organ is nice, but B-3x is incredible). Alchemy has great features but I'm not especially fond of the sound compared to my other synths. Of all their instruments, I think Sculpture is the most interesting, but like Delay Designer it needs a gui overhaul IMO. Oh, and Drummer--I love Drummer. it would be the thing I'd miss most in Logic. I don't love the sounds, so I have Drummer drive other drum libraries. This is a bit of a pain when mappings or velocities don't work out of the box, but once you get it working you can save it as a template/channel strip.
