Would it be possible to let a hardware MIDI controller with transport controls (Mackie protocol) control both DAWs?

I'd imagine those "smart" controllers want a bidirectional connection with a host, so that probably wouldn't work (or would not work well) with two DAWs at the same time. A "dumb" controller could work, but those I guess are typically limited to roughly "play/stop" so no help with seeking which I guess is the real problem here.
