There is a time and a place for light mode. And that time and place, is usually early morning until around mid-day within a brightly-lit space. Wherin, the light mode GUI skins can actually be pleasant, without appearing glaring.
However, within darker-lit studio environments or at night time, the brightness of an almost completely white/light GUI often elicits unwanted eye strain.
Much better to have a variety of skinning/theming options available. Unless the plugin's default skin is already using more neutral mid-tones, which can be easier on the eye within most lighting situations.
