I think all of the CM edition plugins have no protection. They're usually cutdown versions of a larger commercial plugin made for CM. The plugins that have copy protection are not cutdown CM versions but full version software, which is why they need activating.
The protection scheme will be whatever the norm is for that developer. For most of the new ones added here it will be challenge/response. Inphonik being the exception as they don't use copy protection.
