Brandon Ryan (Global Strategic Product Marketing Manager at Roland) in a comment on Roland Cloud's Facebook page says that "It's based on the RE-202 with extended parameters and some other tweaks."
So sold as "vintage RE-201 plugin" is based on "modern RE-202 pedal", is that right? Oxymoron.

And nobody has any problem whatsoever they market and imply the plugin as 1974 vintage original thing and not the new pedal? Right.

Since that's the case, Roland hit next level of BS. At least other companies like Audiothing, UA, IK and GSi, who modeled RE-201, modeled RE-201, not how some new people at Roland re-imagine RE-201 in a pedal form.

And the friggin' Roland plug is not cheap by any means. If you're gonna charge me an arm and a leg, at least give me the real deal in return.

I think dairy products and fruit juice at my local stores increasingly showing texts akin to "the product is based on natural dairy/juice and is NOT the actual natural dairy/juice" was sort of enough, but apparently not. Now the plugins are also "based on based on based". Great. I thought at least leave software alone, right? It should be just based on the original thing, not any replacements.

Fkn modern world, we live in the world of "replacements", seriously. How come we agreed on so many replacements of quality of life without batting an eyelid.. And when even the replacements are not cheap, which a replacement should be by design (ain't that the idea?), the real shitshow begins..
