i felt life was over when my eyes was going kaput,
at first i was like "it's going to get better, just wait"
it just got worse and worse, to the point where
i couldn't read manuals, couldn't play scrabble
couldn't read bill payments
faces were all spikey, angular, scary

but i calmed down and managed to have my eyes checked
"you need surgery on both eyes", the doc said
surgery is a scary word
fight the fear was the only way to go

i'm glad i did that
then covid happened
now it's fear of vaccine
fought that too

now i'm going to fight some more
i'm off to elevate my heartbeat
not by diving off a cliff
but by being scared of faster players
there's a handful of them

okay then, so long, bye bye, fellow music dabblers
